The APA is the peak body representing the physiotherapy profession in Australia. To find an aquatic physiotherapist near you, go to the home page for the Australian Physiotherapy Association then click “Find a Physio”. Enter a suburb and select “Aquatic” in “Clinical Area” and press search.

For aquatic physiotherapy through your local Community Health Centre or Community Rehabilitation Centre or Hospital contact them directly to find out what they offer.

Arthritis Victoria has many great services. From their home page click on Services and then:

  • WAVES Warm Water Program for more information about this gentle warm water exercise class. All participants follow the same general exercise program as demonstrated by the leader. The leaders are trained volunteer instructors, many of whom have arthritis themselves, but are not health professionals.
  • Library to see if you are interested in accessing some further information to people living with arthritis and related musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Rheumatology Help Line - this is a pilot project where a registered nurse is available live on the help line aiming to increase access to accurate health information to people with a musculoskeletal condition, their caregivers and other health professionals in the community.

Arthritis Australia provides support and information to people, promotes awareness and funds research.  Arthritis Australia has some excellent information sheets that are available on the website including many types of arthritis including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, lupus, psoriatic arthritis, gout  and other conditions including fibromyalgia.  There is also an information sheet called tips for osteoarthritis of the hip/knee and one called surgery for arthritis and one under general management about water exercise for arthritis.
